Toshiba adds four laptops to its ultraportable Portégé series and introduces the premium Tecra R10.
Toshiba of Canada Information Systems Group (Toshiba) has announced additions to its Portégé line up of laptops and launched the Tecra R10 laptop with Intel Centrino 2 processor technology.
According to Toshiba, the Portégé R600 with suggested list pricing between $3299 and $1499 is
the world’s thinnest and lightest laptop weighing 2.14lbs and features the Intel Core 2 Duo Ultra
Low Voltage Processor. Battery life is rated at up to nine hours.

The premium Tecra R10 laptop is Toshiba’s fastest in the lineup and is targeted primarily to the
business user. Standard features of the R10 include a DVD Super‐Multi Double Layer drive,
Bluetooth and wireless capabilities, an integrated webcam and the latest Intel Core 2 Duo
processor SP9400 – 2.4 Hz, 4 GB DDR2. Also standard is a 200 GB 7200 RPM Hard Disk Drive and an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 150M graphics controller with 128 MB of dedicated video memory. The Tecra R10 has a suggested list price of $1999

One, Tanaka Seizosho (Tanaka Engineering Works), was Japan's first manufacturer of telegraph equipment and was established by Hisashige Tanaka in 1875. The Toshiba-Kongsberg scandal involved a subsidiary of Toshiba and the Norwegian company Kongsberg Vaapenfabrikk. The incident strained relations between the United States and Japan, and resulted in the arrest and prosecution of two senior executives, as well as the imposition of sanctions on the company by both countries.^[3] The US had always relied on the fact that the Soviets had noisy boats, so technology that would make the USSR's submarines harder to detect created a significant threat to America's security. Senator John Heinz of Pennsylvania said "What Toshiba and Kongsberg did was ransom the security of the United States for $517 million."

In December 2004, Toshiba quietly announced it would discontinue manufacturing traditional in-house cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions. In 2006, Toshiba terminated production of in-house plasma TVs. Toshiba quickly switched to Orion as the supplier and maker of Toshiba-branded CRT-based TVs and plasma TVs until 2007. To ensure its future competitiveness in the flat-panel digital television and display market, Toshiba has made a considerable investment in a new kind of display technology called SED.
