It's difficult to think of a single major notebook manufacturer who hasn't also brought out a netbook by now. Unfortunately, in their haste to get on the mini-mobile-PC bandwagon, many of them have sacrificed considerations like ergonomics. Initially, it would appear Toshiba's NB100 netbook is yet another casualty of this trend, but let's find out how it actually holds up in this and other regards.Toshiba offers several different versions of its netbook, being available with a choice of Ubuntu or Windows XP Home, 512MB or 1024MB of memory and hard drive sizes of 80 or 160GB. Of course, core components like an Intel N270 Atom processor running at 1.60GHz and Intel integrated GMA 950 graphics remain constants. There's also a selection of colours available, though unfortunately these are tied to specific configurations.
Our particular model is the NB100-128, a Windows XP version which features a Champagne Gold finish and is configured with 1GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive.
In terms of extras there's not much here; you don't get a carrying sleeve as with the Samsung NC10 or MSI Wind. What you do get is a helpful illustrated Quickstart guide, an extensive user manual and a Toshiba Recovery DVD including Windows XP Home Edition. Though the usefulness of this latter item with a machine that has no optical drive is arguable, it's better to have it than not, especially considering external USB-powered DVD-Rewriters are only £50 these days.

But the best business–class systems strike just the right balance, offering both solid performance and peace of mind. And with the Tecra A11, Toshiba is looking to show us that they've got that balance down to a Toshiba laptop for business class.
The Tecra A11 is a desktop replacement that's a little more portable than many of the breed, thanks to a 15.6- instead of 17-inch or larger screen -- but a high-resolution screen, rest assured, at 1,440 by 900 with native 720p HD support. Weighing in at as little as 5.6 pounds depending on configuration options, it measures 9.9 by 14.7 by 1.5 inches. So it's not the slimmest 15-inch-class laptop you're going to come across, but it's not the bulkiest, either.
And at a price of $1,349 for the top-of-the-line Tecra A11-S3540 model tested, Toshiba certainly packs a lot into the package. Overview
Toshiba and business go well together, they make business line notebooks at a very competitive business price. We recently got our hands on the Tecra R10 from Toshiba and put it through the paces that any professional might want or need to do. It takes some design cues from the more expensive, consumer oriented Portage R600, but still features a simple ‘business class’ design. Despite being ‘business’ oriented, Toshiba was kind enough to pack it full of features, including a discrete Nvidia Quadro NVS 150M graphics processor with 128MB of dedicated memory. Let’s dive in and take a look at Toshiba’s Tecra R10.
Design
Classy. Simple. Uncluttered. There isn't anything on the Tecra I found overly annoying. There's no god-awful piercing LED lightens, there's no silly speaker adornments - it keeps it simple. Heck, even the power button is simple and doesn't light up, something I haven't seen for a while now; that is truly old school, and I like it.
The sleek tapered design for the LCD lid is welcome, it adds a very nice touch of eco-modernism to the design. The laptop itself is pretty thin as well and being clad in an aluminum-like paint scheme, it's not quite Tuxedo overkill for business, but what I'd call well dressed business casual. Upon opening the Tecra R10, you will find an ample palm rest and a matte black bezel surrounding the LCD. About the only thing that comes close to annoying is the mouse keys which are plastic chromed, which collects fingerprints but is not the worst we've seen on recent laptops. Kudos are deserved for matching the keyboard to the same color as the laptop as well - and only having 4 small stickers adorning the keypad.
Size and Weight
The Tecra is Toshiba’s business oriented thinner and lighter lineup, and it does an outstanding job at maintaining that image. It's not as thin as they come and it's not the featherweight champion, but I didn't have any issues picking up this 4.3 lb 14.1 inch laptop. Less than 5 lb is key for me and having both an integrated optical drive and decent sized screen while staying light is a testament to Toshiba’s engineers. It feels sturdy when you pick it up - and no supermodel dimensions adorn it as it is a bit bigger at 13.3×9.9×1.1-inches
Keyboard
A laptop with a bad keyboard might as well be a bicycle with square wheels. The Tecra R10's keyboard does a good job of keeping up to the task of being responsive, tactile, and quiet yet firm It did suffer a bit of flex when I observed my stubby nubs pounding at the nice sized keys, but it is acceptable and the 85 keys with nice spacing are appreciated. No fancy backlighting, no fancy number pad - the keyboard works as it should. I can't complain about the layout - it all seems simple and very thought out, except the left side. I'm not sure why they chose to have the power button and quick launch / info buttons on the left instead of the top, but I think they should have moved them there and made even more room for this nice keyboard.
I love that if you press the Caps Lock key has an LED that lights up to let you know when it is activated, taking the confusion away if you’re typing in the dark. The simple Toshiba Quick launch key beneath the power button is also very subtle, yet I found it strangely awesome and effective (albeit in the wrong place in my opinion). One tap and you have all your business vitals at your finger tip to enable / disable. Having page up and page down right next to the arrow keys was almost a hit and miss affair, but as soon as I got used to them, they were awesome to have available for quick scrolling and not having to wonder what combination or key I need to hit to get down that 100 page document awaiting my calling (income taxes anyone?). I guess if you had to nit-pick and use them a lot like I do, then it’s fair to note that home and end are in somewhat illogical places and require a Fn key command. Well, you can't win them all.
Touchpad
If I had to name my biggest beef about laptops in general, it's with track pads - some are good, some are horrible, and some are ok. Very rarely do we get a "very good" track pad - and unfortunately, the R10 doesn't get that award. There was too much lag with the cursor for my taste and it is turned off when the system is put into sleep mode, making it a 3-4 second delay to get things going. The buttons are relatively quiet and offer good feedback however, hundreds times better than the E105 buttons I reviewed.
Display Quality
Instant notice - we're not in the frizzled consumer crowd - no, this Tecra sports a matte screen. Although the colors may not be as rich, I prefer matte screens for business use as it cuts down annoying glare considerably, and at 1280x800 resolutions, you get a good bang for the buck for pixels in this 14.1" widescreen. The brightness was more than enough, though I wish there were a bit more steps in the lighting scheme as I noticed a very drastic change from 50% to 60% brightness. I would say, if you have a lamp nearby (like I do now) you could type relatively easily on about 30% brightness. Pumping it up to 100% after that was almost like stabbing my eyes as it was very, very bright; however it will be needed if battling a sunlit bus/train/plane/car ride. Color washout wasn't too bad and horizontal viewing angles were much better than expected. The top of the LCD bezel is a bit bigger than I'd want, but understandable because it's tapered and houses the 1.3MP webcam, which is perfect for Skype business chats. I do have a bit of beef with the hinges on the R10, as they are quite big and a bit bulky, but they felt sturdy enough and didn't offer much flex.
Connectivity
The Tecra R10 is pretty well stacked for connectivity, about on par for the business thin & light class. In particular, I have always LOVED the hardware scroll dial for the volume - keep it up Toshiba!
The left side houses a VGA port, 2 USB 2.0 Ports (one also doubles as an SATA connection), lock slot, mic input, headphone output, and that awesome volume dial.
The front is simple, a lone SD card reader. Unfortunately it is not a multi-card reader, but SD is very widely used today from digital cameras to cell phones to GPS.
The right side features the optical drive, wireless switch, another USB port, Ethernet port, and power port...but wait, cleverly hidden is an Express Card slot as well! Nice!
The rear is as simple as I like it, with nothing there. And for good reason as the LCD hinges push the LCD down to cover that area when in use, making any ports there inaccessible.

Widescreen is still one of the flavors of the month for notebooks and plenty of users are opting to banish boring old 4:3 aspect ratio LCD panels to the land of wind and ghosts.
Toshiba has come out with a brilliant widescreen notebook with some nifty features. While ASUS's W5 on page ^^ is small and speedy, Toshiba takes a slower, more relaxed look at computing. The two are fairly similar on the feature front, with only 200MHz separating the two on the CPU side.
The performance results are predictable, with ASUS having the edge; Toshiba Tecra A4 returned 2835 points in PCMark04, an indication of its competence as a good productivity and media notebook. The gap opened a little in synthetic graphics testing, with the Toshiba managing only 3761 3DMarks -- not exceptional, but enough for a reasonable frame rate in last generation games.
The bundled multi-format DVD burner is ideal for home or business file archiving or creating home movies in conjunction with the 4-pin side mounted FireWire port. A front-mounted wireless switch means you can turn the device on and off as required, leaving it off when not in use will help conserve your battery and improve your mobile run time.
Any manufacturer can put together a notebook and sell it, but the bundled goods are usually the standout features. Toshiba includes a recovery disc for users for when things go pear shaped, allowing you to quickly recover your system to factory settings. Also included is Toshiba Assist, an application for helping users with common problems like network configuration, security setting changes, system diagnostics for easy troubleshooting and an optimize menu with access to functions such as formatting removable memory.
Well priced for the amount of notebook being offered, Toshiba continues to break barriers and is offering a solid all-rounder notebook at a very reasonable asking price.
Toshiba to launch Windows and Android tablets
Toshiba has decided that bringing out tablets is the way to continue its sharp increase in sales, and is considering dual screen and Android models.
The company witnessed a 50 per cent surge in US sales in the first quarter of 2010, with the world's fifth biggest PC maker pushing 1.5 million units out of its doors between January and March in the US alone. According to Jeff Barney, the firm's general manager for digital products, the figures were due to a "leveling" of selling prices, which had been decreasing for some time. Lower component costs also helped the firm post the exceptionally favorable figures.
Barney also announced that Toshiba is considering a "variety of form factors" for its slate PCs and even mentioned a dual-screen model that would run Windows 7. Another unit will supposedly have a screen size of "roughly 10-inches", which is pretty much the same as Apple's I pod.
Unlike Apple's overpriced toy, Barney said that prices will be similar to notebooks, but he also said that the models that run Google's Android operating system will be less expensive than those models that have to pay Microsoft's license fee for Windows 7.
Toshiba's enthusiasm for tablet devices apparently is unbounded with Barney stating that the firm sees that there is a market for such devices. Instead of a boxy standard display, the A4 has a 15.4in widescreen TFT. The first resolution offered will be 1,280 x 768 pixels, with higher resolutions and glossy CSV (Clear Super View) to follow. We saw a pin-sharp 1,680 x 1,050 panel. Screen strength and protection is disappointing, however, and the lid lacks rigidity, so care will be required when on the move. The display will be driven by a 64MB ATi Mobility Radeon X300, giving better 3D performance than Intel's integrated graphics.
Good design elements are evident, starting with the keyboard. Toshiba has eliminated the off-centre feel of many widescreen laptops by moving the keyboard to the right. The principle keys are thus closer to the middle of the chassis. Port placement is good too, with side-mounted D-SUB and USB ports, and a volume thumbwheel on the front. Sadly, the A4 bypasses Sonoma's 802.11a/b/g wireless option in favor of b/g, but you do get an Express Card and a Type II PC Card slot.
The Tecra A4 has a lot going for it, including a generous 80GB hard disk, but we'll keep an eye on battery life and screen assembly when retail units arrive. Still, with £1,099 estimated for the top spec, it isn't too expensive, and the range will start at about £799 for a basic Celeron M model.

The new Portege M750-7211, -7212, and -7213 and there prices are $1,279, $1,699, and $1,799 respectively. All three models have a12.1-inch, 1,280x800 displays,160GB hard drives,2GB of RAM,An eSATA port, fingerprint reader, and a four-year warranty. The 4.2-pound 7211 forgoes the touch capability on the display, this is more efficient laptop along with the optical drive, Webcam, and Bluetooth, but the other two systems have these features. Also, you’ll find a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6570 processor on the 7211, along with a 5,400-rpm hard drive. The 4.6-pound 7212 comes with a 2.4GHz P8600. It also has a 5,400-rpm hard drive. And finally, the 7213 is just like the 7212, except hat it offers a 2.53GHz T9400 processor and a 7,200-rpm hard drive. Its specification are up to the mark that is required now a days.The Toshiba Portage R500 is a laptop that is light in weight it look obese. I can't begin to describe to you how surreal it is when you pick this machine up - your muscles instinctively gear themselves up to lift, and then realize that this thing weighs nowhere near as much as they were expecting. Put plainly, you'd be hard pushed to find a paper pad and pen that weigh much less than the R500. Toshiba rates this particular version of the R500 at 780g, but the Trusted Reviews scales revealed that it's even lighter than that, weighing it in at a truly stupendous 755gram.

Log a Request for Service Repair
You can log a request for service repair either by:

• Online You can book online a request for service repair via:
http://www.toshibamobilecare.com.au.
Before logging a service request online:
1. Read the Terms and Conditions for Repair Services.(Avalailable to view online.)
2. Verify that your Notebook falls within the warranty period.
3. You should contact the Service Centre if your Notebook:
- Falls outside the warranty period
- Service contract terminated
- Purchased outside of Australia or New Zealand
Booking online:
1. Ensure you have the following details ready:Model No. (Located on the base of the Notebook)
Serial No. (Located on the base of the Notebook) Contact Details Problem Description
2. Go to http://www.toshibamobilecare.com.au.
3. Follow through the prompts and ensure to enter the required information.
4. Once the request has been submitted, you will be issued a BOOKING REFERENCE NUMBER.Ensure to take note of the Booking Reference Number. This number is required for any future correspondence and inquiries in relation to your service request.
5. Print the address label provided.Write the “Booking Reference Number” and your “Return
Address” on the label.
6. Prepare your Notebook for courier pick-up or drop-off.Properly pack your Notebook ready for shipment. See details below.
Packaging your Notebook:
1. Before sending your Notebook for repair:
- Backup all your data.
- Ensure to include any login details (username and passwords) with your Notebook.
2. It is highly recommended to use the original packaging for your Notebook. Otherwise, ensure to use a well padded and secure box to ship your Notebook.
NOTE: A computer bag or carry case should not be used for packaging when shipping your Notebook.
3. Use the provided ADDRESS LABEL on the box.

The beginning of this brand name as Toshiba produce best quality product there major focus is to produce best quality with innovative futures Toshiba has been producing well-made and well-respected notebooks for years. In fact, this summer company celebrates 25 years of pioneering mobility. And while this brand is not our absolute favorite in any one category, it tied with Sony for a solid bronze medal due to its consistently better-than-average performance in every category. The manufacturer hit the ball out of the park with its best-in-class not book, and we expect the company to keep innovating.
Performance & Reviews:
9 out of 20 pointsIn the last month 134 out of 17 laptop were review and rating score of those laptop la of 3.5 stars or above, Toshiba notebooks were held back by the company’s average performance in the desktop replacement category. Value-priced notebooks didn’t really stand out, either. The coveted 4.5 star performance of the company’s mini NB205, however, kept the company in the mix.
Design: 11 out of 15 points:
Now Toshiba laptops are available in different color design Toshiba takes risks with unique finishes and colors, which we appreciate. The mini NB305 remains one of the most attractive notebooks by far, and the new Satellite E205 has a futuristic look we love. However, some of Toshiba’s systems are so glossy they pick up fingerprints faster than a CSI.
Keyboard & Touchpad: 12 out of 15 points:
Coming in third for this category, Toshiba’s keyboard and touchpad combo on its notebooks take the cake. Plus, most other systems made by the company are ergonomically sound, with good size and responsiveness when it comes to input methods. The layouts on some value-priced systems show some flex, however.
Tech Support: 12 out of 15 points:
Form technology point of view the rating is not bad actually Toshiba focus no new technology but still me to more focus on technology.
Value & Selection: 12 out of 15 points:
Toshiba is placed third in this category, Toshiba generally offers good values. The company provides a solid mix of laptops at forceful prices, as well as models that can be customized on Toshiba’s website.
Software: 8 out of 10 points:
Toshiba really upped the ante this year when it came to preloaded consumer and business apps. We appreciated the company’s helpful utilities, such as Dashboard and Real-time, and PC Health Monitor.
Innovation: 4 out of 5 points:
In a dead heat with Acer, Toshiba’s Sleep-and-Charge USB ports and implementation of Intel’s Wireless Display technology put this brand in second place with its useful and meaningful innovations. Not they provide more USB ports with innovative features in tangible product.
